Tree Planting – 41 North Main Street 10:00 a.m. (Athens Greek restaurant)

Mayor Don Culliver is pleased to announce the National Arbor Day Foundation has named the City of Mansfield a Tree City USA for the 16th consecutive year. To receive this award, a community and its Shade Tree Commission must demonstrate a commitment to implementing a sound urban forestry policy.

The City of Mansfield Shade Tree Commission members, Mike Henry, and Josh Maurer, continue to demonstrate their commitment to our community by assuring trees are planted where they may be needed, and replacement/maintenance are a priority. Trees are one of our most precious natural resources providing us with clean air, reduction of erosion, habitat for wildlife, an increase in property values, beautification of our community and countless other benefits. Trees also represent the strength, resilience, and potential of our community and are a representative of the foundation of our country.

The City of Mansfield Shade Tree Commission has chosen to celebrate Arbor Day 2011, with the planting of a tree in our downtown area as part of our tree replacement program. A “Serviceberry” will be planted at 41 North Main Street on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at 10:00 am. This is the second of two projects planned by the Shade Tree Commission to support and encourage the citizens of Mansfield to celebrate Arbor Day and beautification efforts in Mansfield.

Mayor Culliver invites the community to join the commission by celebrating Arbor Day 2011 with a tree planting and if your schedule permits, join us for this ceremonial tree planting. Alta Florist & Greenhouse has generously donated the Serviceberry for the tree planting. For more information, call 419.755.9702.
