Subject: Operation S.O.S.(Save Our Streams) - Thursday, Sept. 9th @ 5:00 p.m. Touby Run Stream Clean up (along Bike Trail)
Date: 9/8/2010

The Mansfield Litter Prevention & Recycling Program as a part of our Litter Prevention Stream Outreach Program, is pleased to announce the 2nd Operation S.O.S. for the year 2010.

Litter, debris and illegal dumping are ongoing problems. Litter and debris can stop water flow in our storm drains and cause flooding. This same litter and debris can enter into the storm drains thereby entering our streams and affecting our water quality. This same accumulation of litter and debris reflects to visitors just how much pride we have in our community.

Mansfield Litter Prevention & Recycling is a program that is in place to increase the community awareness of such problems and also to encourage the community to become involved in the solution. Studies have shown when a community bands together by conducting annual clean up events or removing litter and debris when it occurs, the incidence of littering and illegal dumping decreases; thereby creating a community that works toward the goal of being litter-free.

With the aforementioned in mind, we invite area residents, groups, and organizations to meet us at the Mansfield City School Bus Garage on 4th Street on Thursday, September 9, 2010 at 5:00 p.m. to clean up the stream along the Bike Trail.

Volunteers need to wear durable work gloves and waterproof boots. Our office will provide collection bags and disposal of the litter and debris collected.
