At approximately 1909 hours on December 12, 2010, officers of the Mansfield Police Department responded to a report of someone shooting a gun in the area of Superior and Cleveland Avenues.

 

Patrol units were checking the area, when one of the officers was flagged down by a victim of an apparent Aggravated Robbery. Responding officers observed an individual that matched the description of the robbery suspect. Upon attempting to contact this individual, a foot pursuit ensued. An armed confrontation occurred and the suspect was shot and succumbed to injuries he received in the altercation with the officers.

 

The police officers involved in the incident were not injured, and were placed on administrative leave, per standard procedure.

 

Mansfield Police Detectives are investigating the incident with the assistance of the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigations, Crime Scene Investigators, the Richland County Coroner’s Office, and the Richland County Prosecutor’s Office.

 

The suspect’s name has not been released pending family notification.
